During your initial consultation, our team will work with you closely to determine your goals for surgery and help you understand what to expect. First, one of our highly trained medical assistants will note your concerns and take pre-op photos of your desired treatment area(s). Next, Dr. Homer Hojjat will explain which treatments are best suited for you and answer any questions you may have about each procedure.
Finally, we’ll review your complete medical history and perform a pre-op physical exam to ensure you’re physically fit for surgery. Before leaving our office, Dr. Hojjat will also provide you with detailed instructions for the time leading up to your surgery, immediately after surgery, and your recovery. The Mini Facelift Procedure
During your consultation, Dr. Hojjat will thoroughly explain the mini facelift procedure, including the specific techniques that will best treat your problem areas. However, every mini facelift follows the same basic steps.
Step 1: Although it is often called a minimally invasive facelift, the mini facelift is still an invasive surgery. Consequently, all patients will require either general or local anesthesia.
Step 2: The modern mini facelift utilizes a less aggressive technique than the traditional facelift. Once you’re under anesthesia, Dr. Hojjat will make small incisions around your ears and hairline. These incisions are strategically hidden under the sideburns and along the natural contours of the front of the ear.
Step 3: Next, Dr. Hojjat will pull the skin tissues upward through the cheeks to correct any sagging skin and diminish fine lines and wrinkles. He will also manipulate the underlying tissues in the skin by lifting and pulling them up, then removing any excess tissue. Finally, the skin is trimmed and re-draped, and the deep layers are tightened to create a smooth complexion and a more defined jawline.
Step 4: Once the procedure is complete, Dr. Hojjat will use sutures to close each incision and apply recovery garments to facilitate healing.

Both a facelift and a mini facelift involve making incisions to help remove and pull up sagging, excess skin. However, a mini facelift only addresses the upper neck, jawline, and lower half of the face. For this reason, ideal candidates for a mini facelift are people with laxity, or loose skin, along the lower part of the face or the jawline. Other suitable candidates may want to improve the appearance of their lower face and achieve anti-aging results but do not want the long recovery associated with a standard facelift. Potential patients should also be in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations for surgery.
Generally, most patients between the ages of 30 and 65 who have retained some elasticity in their skin are eligible for a mini facelift. However, it is important to realize that this treatment is not for everybody. For example, patients with excessive loose skin on the neck will likely need a standard facelift for optimal results. Similarly, much older patients who have more severe drooping and jowl skin may require a full facelift.

Like all types of surgery, mild side effects are completely normal and to be expected. The most common side effects include pain, bruising, and swelling. Still, the recovery process for a mini facelift is much shorter and more convenient.
After surgery, our office will follow up with you several times to monitor your healing process. Our team will also provide you with a comprehensive post-op plan to ensure you get the best possible outcome from treatment. Your plan will include instructions and everything you can expect, such as estimated recovery time, pain management and medications, compression garments, and anticipated activity levels.
As a safety precaution, we require that a friend or family member stays with you for at least 24 hours after mini facelift surgery. Then, for the first week or two, you will need to limit your activity significantly, which could include restrictions on travel and work. We also ask that you refrain from exercise until you’re cleared by Dr. Hojjat, usually around three weeks post-op.
After about seven days, we’ll arrange an appointment to remove your surgical stitches. At this point, you may still be experiencing some bruising and swelling. However, both should decrease to “socially acceptable” levels within 10 days. Overall, it takes several weeks to fully recover from a mini facelift. Most patients are comfortable returning to work and other everyday activities after 7-10 days. For comparison, this period is typically three weeks following a full facelift.
The final results of your mini facelift will be evident in about 4-6 weeks and are considered permanent. To preserve the results of your mini facelift for as long as possible, we recommend a comprehensive skincare routine, laser treatments, and other non-invasive anti-aging treatments, such as dermal fillers.
